SAN ANTONIO — A carjacking suspect has been arrested following a San Antonio rampage that left two pedestrians dead and several vehicles damaged. San Antonio police on Thursday didn’t immediately release the suspect’s name.

A man carjacked a woman’s vehicle Wednesday night. Sgt. Javier Salazar said the woman was struck in the head with a bottle as she gave up her car. “That victim did the right thing,” Salazar said. “She got out. She let him have the car.”

Police believe the suspect ran over three people and hit at least four vehicles after the carjacking. Police say a man in his 50s was killed at the scene, and that a second man died overnight at a hospital. Details weren't immediately available on the third victim, who was taken to a hospital.

Zachary Olivares said he witnessed an elderly woman get run down by the suspect. “I saw this lady walking on a field and (the suspect) came and just ran into her and took off down the alley,” said the 13-year-old.

Several witnesses restrained the suspect when he crashed the stolen car into a truck, and then tried to run before police arrived. “I called SAPD and I waited until they got there. I just didn't want any more destruction to happen to anybody,” said eyewitness Anthony Dean.

Salazar said police are still trying to trace the path the suspect took because they believe the suspect may have been involved in more crashes than what has been reported.
